Start: April 11, 2014, 9 p.m.

Event at Living Art Studio

A kaleidoscope of colors with dark shadows sneaking in, abstract compositions make way to recognizable forms. Figures inhabit surreal spaces, like a place you saw in a dream.

I like to use mixed media to create a variety of styles of paintings. Abstract, representational and figurative, they sometimes meet in the middle.

I enjoy working with different media- watercolor, acrylic, oils, house paint, spray paint, collage- and sometimes mixing them all together. By drawing, layering drips, brush strokes or stencils, the paintings evolve by responding to color, line and composition. I like to work on several pieces at once, one abstract and another more representational. Lately I’ve been playing with combining the two. How can an object fit into an abstract background to make it appear as a landscape? A reoccurring theme is lovely ladies, who lend a narrative aspect to the paintings. Artists who influence me are John Singer Sargent, Jean Michel Basquiat, Dana Schutz and Adam O’Day.
