Figure Drawing with JJ Ohlinger at 10 Central Avenue Studios

Figure Drawing is a 4-week course providing guided instruction in drawing from the live human figure designed for those with little to moderate experience drawing from a live model. It is structured to provide a high level of individual attention for each student and enable them to learn to quickly and effectively draw from life.

In this class we will address the nude figure as something familiar. Students will be given exercises that will promote confidence in drawing the complicated human form. Issues of anatomical structure will also be addressed throughout the course.

Emphasis will be placed on promoting individual progress in a positive environment. The instructor will give demonstrations and offer customized guidance for each student’s development. The main goal of this class is for the student to develop a clear understanding of basic human form and proportions, as well as strategies for approaching life-drawing techniques.

Drawing is the backbone of understanding how to depict the world, and the skills developed in the practice of figure drawing are broadly applicable to many visual art practices.
