ESCANABA - Patrons visiting Escanaba's Annual Downtown Sidewalk Sales Daze on Friday are reminded to wear yellow because the downtown is going bananas that day, according to organizers.

The sidewalk sales and other scheduled activities take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 900 to 1300 blocks of Ludington Street which will be closed between 9th and 14th streets.

This year's Banana Belt theme means merchants are "peeling back" prices in the U.P.'s Banana Belt, stated an event flyer from the Downtown Development Authority (DDA).

In addition to the sales, some businesses are offering free items or special discounts for customers wearing yellow. This includes free face make-overs, skin care products, pins, banana taffy, and product discounts. There will be an open house at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce with free cookies and popcorn.

Children's activities include clowns, pony rides, a petting zoo, and free face painting. Root beer floats will be available for a quarter. Abra Cadabra moon bounces will be set up for kids to enjoy.
